Answer your question with a limit: “These sources support …, but they do not establish …”

Check your comparison

  • They agree: Agreement is a starting point. Do both sources support the same claim, for the same people and time? Check whether they rely on one another; repetition is not independent confirmation.
  • They conflict: Locate the exact claims that cannot both be right. Check dates, definitions, scope and how each source knows. A missing detail alone is not a contradiction.
  • They answer different questions: Write the question each source answers. Different totals, rules or perspectives may apply to different situations. Explain what each can establish before combining them.

Keep source details and your own reasoning separate. A strong note names evidence, acknowledges a limit and gives a specific next check.
